Author and veteran A. David Barnes, MD, PhD, MPH, FACOG was inspired to leave a legacy to his children and grandchildren, a testimony of his failures and triumphs in life. "Insanity of Wars" (published by Xlibris) follows his journey from medical school and military to world travels and humanitarian medical missions.
Barnes chronicles as an English boy who survived the German Blitz of London and the Japanese killing his uncle. It speaks about his inner struggles as a boy taught to hate the enemy only to discover the shame of it years later. As an adult he has friends from Germany, Japan and communists in China and Cuba. He has visited the Middle East and has Muslim friends. He laments the slaughter of 70 million innocents killed during WW II, all in the name of war. "The killing was insanity," he says. "The insanity of wars should be clear to everyone."
The author talks about his early dream to become a doctor. Hampered by lack of money, his determination and perseverance made the impossible possible.Barnes illustrates to students getting through universities debt free and shows US teachers a different school model. He imparts valuable knowledge on history, geography, religion, philosophy and child-rearing - a testament to the scope of his experience as a man who has been around the world and worked, mostly as a physician, in 16 countries.
"Insanity of Wars" is a true story of one man's love for mankind and his family. It tells of a father's pride for his young son, assisting the latter in completing a marathon at 10 years and continuing for Harvard acceptance at 15 years. It is a story of a soldier who sees not the glory but the insanity of wars.
