Dr. Carlos Maldonado Ortiz draws comparisons between the lifestyles of ancient and modern man to illustrate the true meaning of freedom in his new book, "Rarámuri: Libertad en Ocaso: Recuerdos de La Tarahumara" (published by AuthorHouse), which translates to "Rarámuri: Freedom at Twilight: Memories from The Tarahumara."

Maldonado spent 16 years in the nearly inaccessible Sierra Tarahumara region in Mexico working as a physician for the indigenous and mestizo families in the area. He developed a unique understanding of their culture and relationship to the natural world around them. His book recounts his most memorable stories and observations from the time spent in the region.

"I've always been interested in the relationship of man with Nature and knowing about the various indigenous groups in the country," Maldonado says. "As a physician committed to the well being of the people living there, I had the chance to have a very intimate glimpse to their lives."

More than a memoir, "Rarámuri: Libertad en Ocaso" combines Maldonado's observations of the indigenous people with his knowledge of modern man to create a new definition of freedom. He also analyzes the treatment of nature in both modern and ancient times and seeks to answer the question of why man exists.

Through his book, Maldonado hopes to give readers a new perspective on the meaning of life and encourage them to respect the beauty and wonder of nature.
