New Book Promotes Relationship Between Educators and Families Image Educators are increasingly burdened with the task of repairing broken segments within educational systems while simultaneously ensuring the academic success of all students. Their efforts could be aided by parents and families of students, but often some educators fail to initiate a meaningful relationship with a learner's caregivers.

Dr. Vereen offers a framework for developing, nurturing and sustaining that relationship in "Repair the Broken Pieces: A System to Awaken Positive Relations Between the Family and Educational Provider Through Engagement Fusion."

"Many parents have negative encounters with education personnel, leaving them to feel unwelcome or isolated," Dr. Vereen said. "It became evident that I needed to develop an initiative that addresses the attitudes and perspectives of educators. This system was built with the intention of including families as educational partners throughout a child's academic career."

"Repair the Broken Pieces" links academic achievement with a positive relationship between educational practitioners and families. Dr. Vereen asserts the need for engagement fusion, which embeds acceptance, respect and affirmation into educational protocols. She uses over 35 years of education experience to present research-based strategies, designed to establish constructive relations.

"I loved the research of Dr. Sonia Nieto who focused on the levels of multicultural education as a continuum," Dr. Vereen said. "I expand on her research by adapting it to family engagement and creating the process of engagement fusion."

Dr. Deborah's framework extends beyond the classroom to impact increased awareness of diversity and multiculturalism. Monocultural teaching routinely host poor relations with multicultural families. This experienced educator looks to reverse that trend by creating dynamic engagement between all parents, including those from diverse backgrounds, and their children's educators.
