As a nurse practitioner, Buck has witnessed strength and courage in caregivers during incredibly challenging times. In an aim to tell their stories and inspire others, as well as preserve memories, she penned "Just See Me."
The book collates the experiences of 13 family caregivers for those with dementia/Alzheimer's disease. Their stories share challenges and triumphs and demonstrates how to meet their spiritual needs. The book depicts the healing power of telling one's story in both words and images.
"Most family caregivers begin the journey with little to no preparation," Buck says. "Sharing one's story in words and images, especially during challenging times not only provides connection but helps us to embrace our tenderness and vulnerability."
"Just See Me" aims to remind readers that family caregivers need the love and support of their community. And, taking the steps to learn to be a compassionate caregiver for one's self while caring for others is essential.
"I want them to see there is beauty and light tucked away in the sorrow, grief and tragedy," Buck adds.
