New Book Highlights Strategies to Prevent Violence in Our Schools Image MURDER IN THE CLASSROOM: A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR PREVENTION

A new book by Robert D. Sollars was created to help parents, students, and educators avoid a mass shooting in their school. It helps prevent children and parents from being mentally and psychologically traumatized from such an incident. Best of all, the suggestions and ideas in the book won't cost schools or tax-payers hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars, as we have seen since Parkland Florida which are generally unnecessary.

Look at Lockport, NY. Wanting to spend $2.75M for facial recognition software without hardening the school's outer perimeter or the idea in other states, of sending resource officers to elementary schools, which are unnecessary due to their lower instances of violence, less than 2% of total incidents.

Sollars uses his grass roots style, holding parents responsible and training everyone on the warning signs, to shine the light on the growing problem of school violence and has more than 35 years of experience in the security field.

He began studying school violence in 1987 after the shooting and suicide at Mid-Buchanan Middle/High School. 12-year-old Nathan Faris took his father's .45 to school to take care of a bullying problem. He ended up killing his best friend and then himself in front of his classmates.

Sollars then moved on to workplace violence prevention, then turned his attention back to school violence prevention when his youngest daughter entered school in 2004. "Even as a security professional, I was worried about her, even being in a small district and schools. There is never a guarantee of safety."

Sollars distills 35 years of security experience to craft revolutionary ideas and thoughts, such as arming staff& threat assessment teams, that will help prevent school violence. His blunt, direct (and sometimes politically incorrect) style may step on the sacred cows of the security industry, but Sollars has seen his ideas implemented successfully in the workplace.

"I want to save lives with this book. Our children are our future. If they go to school worrying about being murdered, they are too distracted to learn much while in class. Even a car back fire can send them into paralyzing fear. While they may not suffer any physical injury, the traumatizing effects of just being paranoid that something might happen can be detrimental to their ability to feel safe and to learn."

Robert D. Sollars is available to consult with schools to help them review and revise security measures.
