"If America is to continue prospering, the children of minorities must be able to secure a good academic foundation that will prepare them to be active and contributing citizens," Dr. Campbell said.
"Parents as Talent Developers" is aimed at helping marginalized students achieve academic success. The manual encourages parental involvement and includes 96 best practices, or "kernels," that promote a child's academic growth.
"Our goal with Parents as Talent Developers is to empower caregivers with the essential strategies needed to help children become high achievers," Dr. Harewood said.
The authors glean their insights from studying families of minority students to discern parental practices that contribute to educational achievement. Their recommendations extend beyond the homes of marginalized students to aid educators, teachers and administrators.
