New Book Examines 10 Tales of Military Battles, Leaders and Decisions... Image Max Horlick’s newest book, “SNAFU: Unexpected Military Disasters in History” (published by Archway Publishing), covers 10 different battles where it seems that the military forces that should have been defeated won instead, primarily due to “snafus” committed by the other military force. The book is available for purchase at: https://www.amazon.com/Snafu-Unexpected-Military-Disasters-History/dp/1480860506.

Depicting situations where the seemingly superior force lost, the book shows how battles were won and lost, whether it was from those in charge ignoring intelligence or listening to it. Each of the 10 chapters of the book tells the tale of a conflict in history, from the Battle of Salamis of 480 BCE when the Greeks defeated Persian forces to the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, which includes the author’s own story about fighting in it. Other battles covered include: the Boer War, Little Big Horn, the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean war, the Battle of Agincourt in the Hundred Years' War, the American Revolution, the French invasion of Russia in 1812, the Battle of Bannockburn during the war for Scottish independence and Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

“I wanted to reflect the frustration of millions of now gone veterans whose lives were marked by snafu during the war,” Horlick explains. “It was difficult to get anything done because nothing worked right....and yet, we won.”
