Author Bruce Upham looks at the celebration of the Eucharist in his new nonfiction, "Celebration: Eucharistic Faith and Practice" (published by Trafford Singapore).

Upham wants his readers to gain a better understanding and appreciation of Eucharistic worship and sets out to identify the spiritual riches that can be gained by participating in the celebration of the Eucharist. He brings together insights from different sources, both Protestant and Catholic, in a unique, all-inclusive approach.

"Celebration" surveys the Bible's witnesses to God's interactions with mankind. Upham discusses the various theological disagreements that have beset the church in light of attempts to incorporate Aristotelian philosophy into its sacramental theology. The book seeks to present a way past the conflict.

Upham proposes that Christians turn their attention to Jesus Christ's promises to be physically present through the Eucharist and to Christ's calling to his followers to become his body through the celebration of the sacrament. "Celebration" combines scriptural testimony and references to church history.

"It provides an answer to what is needed to reconcile Catholic and Protestant views of what is happening when we celebrate the Eucharist," Upham says of his book. "Otherwise, we miss out on the spiritual riches the Eucharist offers us."
