Author and advocate Naresh Singh addresses inequalities, injustice and human rights with an integrated, holistic approach in his new nonfiction, "Legal Rights of the Poor: Foundations of Inclusive and Sustainable Prosperity" (published by AuthorHouse).

Packed with information, "Legal Rights of the Poor" offers a review of successful and unsuccessful approaches to reducing poverty and inequality. He describes life in slums and in the informal sector where the majority of the poor live.

The book goes on to address the legal empowerment of the poor and changing power relations between the haves and the have-nots. Finally, Singh outlines a forward-thinking, holistic, sustainable-livelihoods approach, one that he had a lead role in developing.

This book is different from previous books on poverty reduction or legal empowerment of the poor in that it brings together the literature on both these subjects and then goes beyond to address issues crucial to this agenda but not normally addressed such as changing power relations," Singh says. "It thus provides a comprehensive treatment of a range of interlinked themes including poverty, markets, human rights, legal empowerment and informality."
