The new book "A Diamond in the Rough" (published by iUniverse) is a memoir of the events that changed author Myrtle Debra Sydney Salim's outlook on life.

In April 2011, Salim suffered an automobile accident that left her with debilitating pain that needed neck surgery. Faced with mounting medical and rehabilitation bills, Salim was forced to take a job caring for an elderly couple. The book details Salim's relationship with the elderly couple and how they expanded her intellectual horizons. To her immense surprise, the assignment became less of a job and more of a hobby. Moreover, caring for the couple eventually proved to be therapeutic.

This inspirational true story shows that when one gives a little love, they get it back a hundredfold. Salim found that while she thought she was looking after the senior citizens, the truth was that they were looking after her, and caring for her. Her story proves that every cloud has a silver lining and will motivate those going through a tough time in their lives.

"I hope my story will touch the hearts of anyone who reads it regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or where they came from, especially single mothers who have to look for work. It will increase their faith in a higher power," states Salim.
