Canterbury, England
Author Peter Gilbert provides a humorous look at life in his new autobiography, "My Old Man's a Busman" (published by AuthorHouse UK).
From sitting on a freezing beach (so his dad could avoid paying parking charges) in the '70s to stealing Robbie Williams' underwear during a photo shoot in the '90s, Gilbert has led an interesting life. His new book not only shows the comical twists and turns his life often took, but also provides a reflection on pop culture over the last few decades. Gilbert crosses paths with such pop culture icons as Status Quo, Bobby Moore, Hazel O'Connor and Tarzan.
An excerpt from "My Old Man's a Busman":
"Maybe the instruction was too literal for a hysterical woman (or maybe, in hindsight it was that my response had not been in the calmest of voice) but the next thing I knew she had opened the window and, screaming again literally threw the coins out as one would seeds to the pigeons in Trafalgar Square.
To be fair, one or two did go into the hopper. Others bounced off of it while some got nowhere near and simply ended up rolling down the road or under the car. As the cars behind us started on their horns, the shouting got louder.
I think that point signaled the end of the holiday. Also the relationship."
