Many years throughout the United States, the number of domestic violence cases was never brought to light and many people had suffered from the physical and emotional consequences of these situations. Author Gala Waken wants to share her story with the hope that other women or anyone going through this could realize that they did not have to continue living this way in her new publication, My Home Sweet Home.
This book is the true-to-life story of a rebellious girl who married a handsome young man. She got pregnant at the age of 16. Gala only wanted to have her own family and live in a happy home. Although they love each other, their one problem was Jack's fondness for alcohol. He was always out drinking and he abused her physically and emotionally. Her mother warned her that he may only give her nothing but hell, but she still went on and married him. She believed that love can get them through this storm.
She worked hard, both in her role as a mother and as a financial supporter for her husband. They have happy moments, especially at times when Jack ceased to drink and simply focused on his family. Some good things, however, will never last. He lost his job and at one point, left his family to seek for booze and women. His abuses were witnessed by his children. Their marriage was not working anymore. It was only her faith that kept her through the years.
Revealing and deeply moving, this memoir is told with honesty and sincere hope of helping those who go through the same way. It is not too late to pick themselves up from the rubble and put the pieces of their life together. My Home Sweet Home will let readers get a glimpse into the life of one remarkable woman who battled all the obstacles in her life and survive the storm.
