Muslim author and international educator Umm Juwayriyah launched the #MuslimGirlsRead Ramadhan 2017 Book Fund, a national literary initiative to raise money for books for inner-city Muslim schools across the United States during the holy month.
The Ramadhan fundraiser was supported by many American Muslim authors, educators, and journalists including educational consultant Saba N. Taylor, author Sahar AbdulAziz, Layla Abdullah-Poulos, author and owner of Djarabi Kitabs Publishing (DKP), Papatia Feauxzar.
With over $750 raised, #MuslimGirlsRead and Author Umm Juwayriyah was able to send new Muslim fiction to Muslim schools in Boston, Baltimore, Houston, and Los Angeles. For some of the schools, the book packages will help create their school's library and for the other schools the new books by Muslim authors will be a welcomed addition.
Author Umm Juwayriyah founded the #MuslimGirlsRead initiative to get Muslim girls reading, thinking, and eventually making important impacts in the world around them. The Ramadhan fundraiser is just one step to help increase literacy skills in Muslim communities.
