Across the world, someone somewhere is getting their first guitar today. It is, simply put, the world's most popular instrument. In its acoustic form it is perfect for classical and traditional styles, and when electrified, there is no limit to what it can do.
The guitar also has a reputation for being easy to learn, and as a result most of those people who get that first guitar will start playing and teaching the instrument to themselves as soon as they get it out of the case. But the guitar is actually a very complex creature, where for example, one can find the exact same note in many different places. In addition, simply playing the guitar with poor technique can lead to physical problems like tendonitis.
After publishing several tomes of guitar instruction for the advanced student, Guitar Guru Bruce Arnold decided to focus on the beginner, with "First Steps for a Beginning Guitarist." "I started playing when I was 12, and living in South Dakota, I did not have access to great teachers," says Arnold "so I just either picked up what I could, or practiced what the local teachers could give me. But further along, I realized that I could have made progress so much faster if I had had the right guidance. I decided to write a book that would help those folks just like me, who fell in love with the guitar and wanted to play it really well."
"First Steps for a Beginning Guitarist" is not just a book. It comes with access to a complete library of online tools, like videos, MP3s and support FAQs. And like all Muse-Eek books, the author can be reached to answer those question not addressed by the FAQs.
The book itself covers the important subjects of proper playing technique, tuning, picking, strumming, music theory and rhythm. Since the hardest part of learning the guitar for a beginning student is switching between chords, this unique method book contains progressions using both "open" and "barre" chords that gradually take a student from a beginning level to an advanced level.
Additionally, Mr. Arnold has found that the only way a student can remember information is to apply it. So mp3 and midifiles are supplies to be played along with, for developing the strumming, time and feel for each chord progression. The chord progressions presented are commonly found in hard rock, rock, folk, blues and country music, giving the student a solid harmonic foundation in all these styles. Videos and pictures are also available in the Members Area to clarify many playing issues.
"First Steps for a Beginning Guitarist" is available as a physical book, an e-book, and as in interactive e-book on Apple's iBookstore for the iPad. The interactive e-book contains links to 450 online video and audio files. Guitarists can study any time, anywhere using this highly portable format.
"The first six months of practicing the guitar are where students form most of the habits they will have in their playing for the rest of their lives," says Bruce. "I want to get all those enthusiastic new guitar lovers on the right path right away."
