'Muscadines and Daffodils' is Released

A devotional doesn't have to follow the typical format of once a day, one page increments. At least not to Judy Renick, who wrote her new book "Muscadines and Daffodils" as a devotional for women with an atypical format.

Although it might not follow the typical devotional format, that's precisely what makes "Mucscadines and Daffodils" exceptional. These daily devotions read like a novel as the main character's story unfolds. Drawn from the author's childhood years in Mississippi, "Muscadines and Daffodils" illustrates situations that many women face as they journey on their faith walk.

"In these troubled times, there is both a real and a heartfelt need of women to bond with others who are walking along life's journey while keeping the faith. Such is the bond women of all ages can feel with Angela, as they read her life stories daily," said Renick.

Readers describe it as "a delightful departure from the daily devotional format" and felt they left the book comforted and enriched.

Renick decided to write "Muscadines and Daffodils" after writing down important, happy and tragic events in her life and looking back on them later when her children were much older. "I was so convicted to write [the book] that I retired early to complete it," said Renick.

Now, Renick is a gang rehabilitation counselor in Texas but she finds many women are often intrigued that the book is written as a story rather than broken down by day. Renick herself struggled to find other devotionals written in the same format as "Muscadines and Daffodils" and hopes that women use the book as a tool to follow their faith, while enjoying a little reading and relatable characters along the way.

About the Author

Judy Renick has written technical books on school safety. She also authored the film and accompanying book, "Writing on the Wall", about youth gang awareness. She currently works as a consultant in the areas of gang awareness, school safety, and domestic terrorism. She is on the board of the Christian organization Hands of Hope and lives in San Marcos, Texas with her husband.
