As Luck Would Have It (published by Trafford Publishing) is an unsophisticated and candid account of childhood, weaves of joy, sorrows, boyhood antics and a sprinkling of earthy humor.
The author relays accounts of the freedom of childhood during those times and how children and adults coped under adverse conditions particularly during World War II.
By turns poignant and heartwarming, the recollections are more than a chronicle of events and a boy's attempts to find his place in the world. It involves the highs and the lows of existence, a broad slice of life from a critical time in history. The book portrays the opposite mindset of modern political correctness and points out how an unsophisticated upbringing in a working-class area can still be of value for success in adulthood. Brimming with honesty, Monty Raine portrays his reflective childhood nature, capturing the dilemmas facing the not so simple growing-up years.
The memoir explains the relationship between himself and his aging grandmother who demonstrates her exceptional courage and fortitude after her own tragic losses of loved ones.
