Did you know that over 40 percent of Ugandan children will die before their fifth birthday? That public school is not free in Uganda? With countless people going over to help these communities, Lisa Sanders asks: are you prepared for the coming experience?
In "12 Days in Africa," Lisa shares observations and reflections from her short-term missionary trip to Uganda.
Beginning when an Alaska soccer mom and her teenage son decide to take a trip with meaning before he begins college, Lisa illustrates their 12 day short term mission trip to Africa. From where to stay and what to eat, this book shares a guide of encouragement and raw emotional experiences for others preparing for a similar trip.
"After my trip, I needed a cathartic outlet to express what I shared in and witnessed in Uganda," Lisa said. "I began typing up my notes, then gathered up stories from fellow travelers about their experiences. I feel it is important to educate future short term mission trip travelers about the help they can bring to this country."
In addition to being a guide, "12 Days in Africa" showcases how Lisa discovered there is a world of children that need love when your own children have grown up. After comforting sick and dying children for 12 days, Lisa illustrates how the experience allowed her to utilize her mothering skills with orphans in need.
"I discovered in Uganda that God has a plan for me. I have a purpose to share the love a mother still is driven to give, even after her children are grown."
