Legendary music producer Milt Okun is releasing his much anticipated memoir, Along the Cherry Lane, today, Monday, June 13. Milt Okun's book launch event, held Saturday at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, California, was packed shoulder-to-shoulder with friends, fans, journalists and well-wishers. Placido Domingo, a long-time friend of Milt Okun's, wasn't able to attend but sent a video congratulating Milt on his success.
Along the Cherry Lane is a portrait of a unique career, told in stories by Milton himself and those who have been a part of his remarkable life in music. Milt chronicles his career, from school teacher to working with some of the biggest names in music, such as John Denver, Harry Belafonte, Placido Domingo as well as Peter, Paul and Mary to launching his music publishing company, Cherry Lane. The book is rich with music history and anecdotes of run-ins with television network titans and music stars such as Elvis Presley. The story is co-written by Richard Sparks, Milt's son-in-law, an author known for his light-hearted and comedic approach to writing.
Quotes about Milt Okun from Along the Cherry Lane
"Milt was, no musical pun intended, the scorekeeper. What he provided for the group was stability and a capacity to recall that which was inspired, either a moment ago, or a day ago, or a week or months ago." - Noel "Paul" Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary
"John thought of Milt as a mentor. Milt believed in John, probably a little more than John believed in John in the early days. He was insecure about his abilities at the beginning. There are times in our lives when people believe in us, and it makes a huge difference. And that was the gift Milt gave John." - Annie Denver, wife of John Denver
