During Biblical times, the region of Midbar was known as a realm of terror. It was place of intolerable hunger, pain and danger. For Bathsheba, the adulterous wife of King David, it was a place of refuge.
Scandalous and mind-gripping, "Midbar" by Lynny Harris is the enthralling story of Bathsheba, a woman in search of unconditional love who is thrust into political scandal. Publicly shamed and abhorred as an adulteress, Bathsheba stands up to public ridicule and later gives birth to the future king of Israel.
"I've long been fascinated by the history of Kings David and Solomon, but I never found insight from a woman's perspective," Harris said. "I wanted to know what living in Midbar was like for women. I found my answers, and more, with Bathsheba."
Love, war and scandal are frequent themes in the Bible, but an omniscient, male narrator presents them. Harris' story offers a woman's point of view. Bathsheba's search for everlasting love reveals her strength of character and faith; she's an example for all Godly women to emulate.
