WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.
In his debut novel, "Miskito" (published by AuthorHouse), acclaimed storyteller and foreign correspondent Michael Molinski masterfully mixes fact with fiction to recreate the volatile climate of pre-Civil War United States, and the lives of people entangled in the political machinations of the superpowers of the era.
"Miskito" introduces readers to protagonist Nick Malone who has accepted an offer of a lifetime: go to Nicaragua and open a new transoceanic transportation route across Central America. Nick's decision will set into motion a series of events that will not only change his life but plot the course of the future of Central America, U.S. imperialism, global capitalism, the Civil War and Manifest Destiny. In a turbulent landscape of political intrigue, capitalist agenda and power struggles, Nick finds himself facing internal conflicts of his own ambition and greed as well as his growing attraction to a spirited young Moravian missionary whose ideals clash against his own.
Inspiration for the novel was drawn from Molinski's stay in the Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua in 1990 during the last year of the Contra War. Intrigued by the diversity of the Mosquito Coast and its people, he thought there is perhaps no better place on Earth to tell the story of global imperialism and its effects on people.
As believable as it is compelling, "Miskito" is a brilliantly orchestrated tale of international intrigue, greed, power and what happens when these forces collide. The novel has received glowing reviews from various critics; among them is ABC Radio correspondent and author Joan Kruckewitt who said:
"Like James Michener, he mixes well-researched history in a story that includes adventurers, missionaries, Indians, the richest of American society and down-on-their-luck denizens. An exhilarating debut!"
