In Meredith Eastwood's new children's book, "Treasure Link: Adventures of a Hemingway Cat" (published by AuthorHouse), children learn valuable lessons about self-acceptance, diversity and friendship.
"Treasure Link" is a hero's journey about Buffett, a seven-toed cat, who is trying to find his place in the world. He sets out to find the Hemingway House where there are other polydactyl cats who will not tease him for the extra toes on his paws, and where he can find out about his parents. Through many adventures and encounters with several animals who befriend him, he builds courage, learns about his identity and discovers the true value of friendship.
The book addresses the hot-button issue of bullying, and Eastwood includes encouraging messages for kids who feel different. "A perceived disability does not define true identity or limit potential," she says. "One does not have to be just like others to feel valued and to have friends."
