While this is the story of O'Hara's personal journey, many women will relate to her situation. She has experienced abandonment, anorexia, physical, sexual, mental, and emotional abuse, and bad decisions. Feeling defeated, deflated, frightened, and alone became O'Hara's "normal." However, the "good little girl" possesses strengths that manage to carry her through extensive adversity.
"As a victim of severe abuse, my understanding heart goes out to all who suffer, not only the ones of domestic violence, but anyone whose life is deluged with negativity," said O'Hara. "Perhaps my revelations will instill a glimmer of hope which may initiate the steps necessary to change their circumstances, or at least allow them to hang on through their trials.
O'Hara's story originated as an autobiographical piece for her children, written in hopes that it would provide them with a history and a better understanding of the person she was in her youth, and the person she became. After it was written, she realized that others could benefit from reading about how an abandoned little girl and abused woman managed to wrangle herself from the depths of overwhelming torments and odds.
