Sharing a deep friendship that transcends their 30 years age difference, author Maurice W. Dorsey has regarded Henry G. Parks, Jr. as his mentor. They experienced racial and sexual orientation oppressions in their lives, and they both understood the injustices. In "Businessman First" (published by Xlibris), a memoir they started writing together before Parks died of Parkinson's, Dorsey finally reveals the life story of one remarkable man that took 25 years to complete.

Henry G. Parks, Jr. was a man before his time. He pioneered in the American free enterprise system, embarking on a journey leading to a multi-million dollar industry. After many endeavors in business, The H.G. Parks, Inc. trading as ParksSausage became a reality in 1951. His strong aggressive leadership, brilliant marketing and advertising were essential in aiding him to build a business that never posted a losing year under his ownership. Park's Sausage was the first African American-owned business to issue stock publicly. This book is his story - a triumphant journey of an African American businessman whose optimism and determination helped him achieve ultimate success.

"The message of Mr. Parks was that African American people need to take more steps toward business ownership," Dorsey says. "As a race, we will never get ahead if we continue to invest in the society. Mr. Parks proved that business ownership is attainable on the same terms as anyone else."

Inspiring and motivational, "Businessman First" is dedicated to the African American youth, encouraging them to take the leap and delve into the business world. It teaches them how to overcome adversity and come out triumphant regardless of the odds against them.
