Author Mary Helen Moore Neuendorffer reminisces the remarkable history of a community close to her heart in her debut book titled "The Town and the Troublesome Strangers, 1880-1980" (published by Xlibris). This publication weaves rich culture and history with a poignant fiction tale of the frequent interaction between the permanent town people of the beloved small New England town of Northfield, Massachusetts and their often troublesome excursionists. How will the old community approach the case of the young globetrotters?
The warm community of Northfield has been staying and thriving in peace, abundance and harmony in their humble village for a number of generations already. They have stayed solid and warm through time; their culture and traditions kept and greatly celebrated. However, things changed when newcomers set foot in the land: some attending summer conferences, some German sympathizers during WWII and the 10-year-old commune that was set up by hippies. In this light-hearted adventure, how will the meeting of the indigenous people with the newcomers go?
The delightful charters of "The Town and the Troublesome Strangers, 1880-1980" include: James Crawford, a Northfield farmer who optimizes the hard working people of the town; John Peterson, the owner of a detective agency, who is suspicious of German sympathizers in Northfield during WWII: and, Joan Brownell, a longtime member of the commune that was forced to leave.
Neuendorffer offers a look-back to the great history of a community that highlights the puzzle of human nature compared to the pleasantness of natural scenery.
