Henry David Thoreau once said, "This world is but a canvas to our imagination." In her new book of poetry, "Seeing Things" (published by Trafford Publishing), writer and artist Mary Catherine O'Brien explores her own imagination, sharing a number of works, not only in word, but also in illustration.
"I have an eidetic memory and things once seen are lodged in my mind," O'Brien shares. "Eventually to free my mind, I am driven to paint these things. I like my work to challenge the mind, not merely to appeal to emotions." In her book of poetry, she offers a wide variety of art styles and subject matter to wed the two ideas.
An excerpt from the poem, "Eversong":
"The fading yellow light of twilight
Casts its spell upon my sight.
I am held still and silent, waiting,
Suspended in a trance.
All the world around me is in motion.
I, only, am unmoving.
A soft evening breeze urges dance of leaf and limb
Amid the sweet susurration of sunset's song."
