This collection of tales about everyday living explores a wide range of themes that will surely touch the heart and coax a smile or two out of anyone. It touches on the predicament of being alone, of saying goodbye and reuniting with loved ones. It sheds a ray of light into the lonely lives of people who thought they have no one to turn to, imparting to them a beacon of hope and reassuring them that tomorrows have something in store for them. The author also weaves the spirit of Christmas into the hearts of the readers, reminding them that this wonderful season is all about giving and family.
An excerpt from the story, Christmas Day:
Eleanor had been feeling guilty that she had not been for her morning walk, so she did go then. There were only two people she passed, one man washing his car, and another playing with his dog in the park. It certainly did not feel like Christmas. How she missed Murray, who had been dead now for six Christmases. He would have helped her wrap all the presents and put them under the tree that they would have decorated together. There had always been lots of hugs and kisses around the Christmas tree.
With its captivating characters and moving storylines, "Magpies and Other Short Stories" imparts to readers valuable lessons about life's ups and downs and twists and turns.
