Mary Ann Dratch debuts with a poignant yet inspiring tale that takes readers on "A Journey through Time" (published by Lulu). A story heavily influenced by the author's own experiences and that of her husband's Jewish heritage, this treats readers to a narrative filled with hope and resilience of the people who chose to stand and not buckle under life's vicissitudes.

"A Journey through Time" follows a young woman named Gina as she struggles growing up in the 1970s, trying to understand her mother's family's secretive and distressing behavior concerning their time spent in Bologna, Italy, during World War II. Her mother had documented her story in a journal but because of the war and the trauma of the insurmountable difficulties her mother has encountered, it was difficult for her to share her story.

But as time heals all wounds, Gina's mother consequently allowed her daughter to read the journals, giving Gina the opportunity to try and digest the enormity of her life story and gain an understanding of what it was like to live through a war and the family's reasons for coming to America.

Although the story touches on the horrors of war, it focuses more on the interrelationships of a family dedicated to one another, as well as justice. Living through a fascist imposing dictatorship government, this story does not scare readers but gives them a feeling of hope and optimism with the way the characters navigated the seas of life during a trying time.

"A window into the life experiences of the common person trying to live through the horrors of war gives readers the opportunity to experience what was felt by an Italian family. Together they encountered all that life had to give and together they stayed strong. They learned how to support one another through difficult times and overcame all the misery that war can cause."
