Readers never cease to clamor for attention-grabbing memoirs of lives full of adventure. With the publication of his new autobiography "Dragon Chaser: A Memoir" (published by iUniverse) author and veteran Mark Lloyd adds another volume to the collection of incredibly true stories.
"My book is a story of some of my adventures in a life of strenuous endeavor," Lloyd says. "After surviving Vietnam and working as a police officer in Los Angeles, I go on to become an undercover DEA agent, serving in some of the world's illegal drug hot spots - chasing the dragon of illicit drugs in Los Angeles, Guam, Peru and Thailand."
An excerpt from "Dragon Chaser":
The fact remains that the world is a menacing place, and America is not safe today. Illegal drug use has not abated; that possibility is not even imaginable. Many say it's all a lost cause, that we should change unenforceable narcotics laws.
What keeps us going? I don't know. I wish I did. But I believe that so-called lost causes are never lost as long as those who believe in them carry on. Someone always sees those who step forward, and that someone in turn will follow.
Some of us have discovered that duty, keeping up the fight, is not only a burden and an obligation, but deliverance. Duty must endure, if not overcome."
Lloyd knows his book offers more than just entertainment. "Looking back in history to the U.S. actions in Vietnam and fighting illegal drugs relates to today's problems," he says, "unwinnable military action and continued failure in restricting drug trafficking - and our nation's seeming failure to learn from our mistakes."
