SILVER CREEK, Wash.

Author and extreme rider Mark Bolender gives readers the training and guidance needed to take the reins with confidence in his new riding guide, "Bolender's Guide to Mastering Mountain and Extreme Trail Riding" (published by iUniverse).

Bolender believes in teaching horses, not dominating them. His methods incorporate a horse's natural instincts and are meant to inspire horses to be bold and confident, which helps build a mutual trust between horse and rider.

Written for beginners and experts alike, "Bolender's Guide to Mastering Mountain and Extreme Trail Riding" begins by introducing horse characteristics and how to communicate effectively with horses.

As the book progresses, Bolender incorporates extreme training techniques he has tried and perfected for more advanced riders. With practice, riders of all skill levels will better understand their horses and develop a more meaningful relationship with them.

"I want readers to take away the fact that the horse is neither superior nor inferior to the human," Bolender writes. "They are just different. The horse's instinct is brilliant and a different type of intelligence than we humans have and this is what dominates us in such a manner that we do not recognize we are being had."
