While counseling the engaged and married couples of their church, Claude and Valerie Strayhorn noticed a startling trend among them: couples weren't asking questions that would prevent future marital distress. The pastor and his wife worked together on the marital guidebook, "Important Questions to Ask Before and After Marriage" (published by Archway Publishing), to help couples understand what they should be discussing to avoid later problems.

The Strayhorns describe their book as a common sense resource for communicating within a marriage. Their marriage counseling careers, which span across more than three decades, help them fill the pages with a wealth of experience and knowledge

The book features questions such as "Do you have to win an argument?" and "Should a couple live together if they're not married?" These and other questions require couples to be completely honest with one another. The book also includes spaces for couples to fill out their answers together.

"Most people don't want to enter a relationship blindly," the Strayhorns say. "They want information, but they may not know how to go about getting it. This book gives them the tool they need to communicate their thoughts."
