The special bond between a devoted grandfather and grandchild is lovingly portrayed by Maria C. Ciancio in her new children's book, "The Best Grandpa in the Whole World" (published by Trafford Publishing).

"This book is about my memories of my paternal grandfather and me when I was a little girl in the Bronx," Ciancio explains. "He always gave me piggyback rides, read aloud to me and took me to the playground. We rode the subway. We had a special bond."

An excerpt from "The Best Grandpa in the Whole World":

"Long ago in a big city, there lived an elderly gentleman... His family included a curly topped girl of three. She was the apple of his eye. Every morning, on his way to run an errand or take the little girl to the playground, he would give her a piggyback ride down the stairs. It was fun, even for Grandma who watched from the top of the stairs."

"People are too busy to pay attention to little ones it seems," Ciancio laments. "Just taking some time out of a busy schedule to spend with a child builds good memories and bonding. It shows that the little things in life are really the things that matter such as spending quality time with a child. Taking time to do things with a child shows the child you care." This book will speak to adults and children everywhere who identify with the special relationship between grandparent and grandchild.
