Willie is a little goat and Bo, a dog, is his best friend. They are owned by author Margaret Cardenas and her husband. They lived in a small rural community in the mountains east of San Diego together with their other animals.

The Willie children's book contain two endearing stories titled Willie and the School Bus and Willie and the Man written by Cardenas for her grandchildren but were also enjoyed by the students she worked with. Willie and the School Bus tells the unique story of true friendship between two farm animals that enjoy so much each other's company. Every morning, Willie and Bo watch the neighbor kids walk on the road and wait for their school bus. In the afternoon, the kids walk past Willie and Bo again as they get off the school bus. Every day, the little kids play with Willie and Bo until the school bus arrives to pick them up for school. But Willie and Bo do not want to be left behind. What will they do?

In the other story, Ma wanted to bake cookies and not to stay outside and just watch Willie and Bo play. She put Willie into Bo's yard for them to play together and for Ma to do her thing in the kitchen. However, Ma heard someone knock on their door. When she opened it, a man told her that Willie has been taking a walk down the road, but ran inside the yard when he came into their house. Does the man tell the truth? What was Willie's reaction towards it? How did Ma and the man take Willie's actions?

Willie and the School Bus is an endearing picture book that children will be sure to love. It depicts the true behavior of farm animals as pets and how they interact with people. It shows to readers that caring for these animals can be really rewarding because they can be adorable to have around the house or the backyard.
