Debut author Marc O. Rosier has this desire to bring to light important information to redress what appeared to be a miscarriage of justice concerning Chicago, Illinois' founder. He uses his new book to shed light on such misconception by revealing "Chicago's Authentic Founder" (published by Trafford Publishing).

"Chicago's Authentic Founder" traces the life and time of Jean Baptiste Point DuSable from Haiti through Louisiana, Peoria, Chicago and Saint-Charles, Missouri, where he died in 1818. It examines important historical events such as the foundation of Chicago, George Rogers Clark's conquest of the French villages in Illinois, and DuSable's arrest and appointment as manager of the Pinery in Michigan.

The extent of DuSable's Chicago business or trading post is treated in full. DuSable's life in Saint-Charles is recounted in light of various court documents. His relationship to and leadership of the Pottawatomi tribe is explored and analyzed in ways that correct many of the inaccuracies found in the accounts publicized by the Kinsies and their allies.

"DuSable has been mentioned in several books for sure," Rosier admits. "Some have even used his name to authenticate their buildings and businesses, but they would not invest capital to compile materials so interested scholars would work to set the records straight. This volume places DuSable in the context of his time and affords him all rights, privileges, and the benefit of the doubt that all important historical figures get."

Rosier accurate presentation of facts makes it possible, for the first time, the hidden meanings of various foreign sources. The introduction and incorporation of other sources into the genre will benefit other scholars and enhance the historiography that concerns "Chicago's Authentic Founder."
