Bestselling management book by United Arab Emirates- based author Nicolai Tillisch has taken the Middle East by storm, just seven months after the first edition of the book was published by Motivate Publishing. Effective Business in the Gulf: Mastering Leadership Skills for Greater Success serves to address unanswered questions related to the areas of effective business and leadership in Middle East organizations.

Targeting expatriates and Arab nationals, the book focuses on the unique business and cultural environment that are vital to describing how the region's business environment has evolved and will continue to develop after the financial crisis. The author discusses seven requisites that a business leader should keep in mind in order to achieve great business success in the region. Lebanon's former Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Dr Nasser Saidi, praised the book, saying: "This book is a practical, useful guide for anyone wanting to start a business or network in the Middle East. Nicolai Tillisch brings knowledge and varied experience to the task."

Tillisch, a former McKinsey consultant, says: "A few good books have been written about establishing a new business in the Middle East and how westerners should adapt to the Arab culture. None, however, address the burning question of how to successfully run a business in the region. Management books that are widely bought and read by the region's business people are imported mostly from the United States and the United Kingdom. While these books contain several valuable points, many of them are not fully applicable in this region."

These observations encouraged Tillisch to conduct a study that included interviews with more than twenty top business leaders in the region. He had already formulated and tested various hypotheses about doing business and leading people in the Middle East. The interviews formed vital stories and case studies to balance his observations during his ten year-long stay in the Middle East. "Much of the book took shape while I figured out how to be effective myself and while I helped others to become more successful," shares Tillisch. "The last of the four parts in the book builds on techniques that I have developed, applied and refined over more than ten years, alongside a world-leading expert on human performance and creativity."

Not only did the book emerge as a result of the study, Tillisch went on to found Dual Impact, a Dubai-based consulting and coaching firm."My resolve to strike out on my own was strengthened by my conviction that most companies miss significant potential by treating business decisions and initiatives separately from leadership development. I noticed the divide between 'hard' management consulting and the 'soft' fields of coaching and training were seldom crossed. Dual Impact now helps business leaders with strategic issues in which people are a critical factor."

The second edition of the book is now made available as an e-book on Amazon's Kindle, thanks to Motivate Publishing.
