The Chain Murders of Iran was a series of killings and disappearances that occurred from the beginning of Iran's revolution (1979). The most of victims were Iranian intellectuals. Author Mahshid Sharif's husband, Majid Sharif, an Iranian researcher, author, translator and journalist, was one of the victims (1998). Since her husband's death, Mahshid has written seven books and several articles with the hope that these echo the voice of her husband and other martyrs like him.
"My Name Is Nily" (published by Xlibris) is Mahshid's latest novel. It tells the story of an Iranian family that immigrated to Sweden and the challenges they face in the midst of the unfamiliar culture and country. Nily, the title character, is the young daughter and it is through her eyes and understanding that readers will see the issues arising from their family's move as well as other important events happening in the world around her.
Sharif, who now lives in Sweden, writes this story with understated grace and insight of the cultural issues that exist in both Iran and Sweden. "My Name Is Nily" is a deeply moving story of a girl's coming of age and her journey through a world of constant change.
