FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.
What if something as simple as sharing a meal could help achieve harmony between diverse groups of people?
Author Elisabeth Falcone believes food has the ability to bring people together, regardless of their ethnicity or belief system. Her new book, "Mommy, Was Grandpa a Nazi?: Recipes for Tolerance and Understanding," provides educational stories of food's unifying powers as well as recipes from around the world.
"Food is an important factor in our ongoing search to achieve tolerance and understanding of others," Falcone said.
Falcone, a German immigrant, was inspired to write the book after a real-life experience in which a contentious first impression blossomed into a lifelong friendship centered around a shared love of cooking.
"I wish to illustrate how people of diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds can be brought together by sharing food," Falcone said. "It can help bridge a gap between cultures."
