As part of a new 2015 marketing campaign, Sivarajah Manicavasagar will be launching a Goodreads giveaway for his book, "Memoirs of a Diabetic: A Malaysian" (published by Partridge Singapore).
The Goodreads giveaway contest will be giving away 10 free copies of Manicavasagar's book. It will be open to all Goodreads users and last for 30 days. Goodreads users are encouraged to be on the lookout for Manicavasagar's Goodreads ad in the upcoming months.
Manicavasagar has managed his diabetes for the past 57 years, beginning with his diagnosis at age 11. In his memoir, he recounts how the handling of insulin has changed over the years. He relates his experience boiling metal needles to ensure they were properly sterilized and sharpening them on rhinestones. "Memoirs of a Diabetic: A Malaysian" also describes testing "urine sugar" before blood glucose level tests were available.
In addition to the details about the progress made in diabetic management, Manicavasagar recalls many incidents of hypoglycemic attacks - some of which seem humorous in hindsight - and two hyperglycemic attacks, one of which was very serious.
Readers will also learn about recognizing the early symptoms of hypoglycemic attacks while exercising and how to avoid them and the care to be taken while in control of vehicles.
