Author Louise M. Coffman's new book Abner's Dilemma: Will faith and endurance with little else enable the Brethren to reach their Promised Land? (published by AuthorHouse) depicts the daily challenges the Brethren face on their way to their Promised Land in Pennsylvania.
The book is the fourth in the Abner series and details the tests and trials that the Brethren refugees endure while living on the bank of the Susquehanna River. With the comforts of their cozy Bavarian homes far behind them, the only thing that consoles the Brethren refugees is their faith in God. The Promised Land is beautiful but demanding, and the sojourners are determined to work hard to fulfill their dreams, emboldened by their undeterred faith in God.
Coffman's familiarity with the ways and traditions of the Pennsylvanian Dutch people adds to the authenticity of the plot and the language used in the book. Rooted deep in the culture and history of Pennsylvania Dutch, Abner's Dilemma is a historical fiction that makes an interesting read.
An excerpt from the Abner's Dilemma:
"All right, all right," replied Abner as he stepped onto the ladder and made his way down. "But it's a sight to see - the Susquehanna River. I want you to know that! I can't wait to get over there and see where our new home will be. Grandpa says that's our Promised Land."
