Lorretta Riegel, a family historian, traveler, writer and author, has completed her newest book "Lora's Adventures": an enlightening and prolific work of non-fiction that delves into the author's past and the ideas of family, love, childhood, and self-identity.
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Lorretta Riegel's honest tale is a journey into the history of her family and the region of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Lora and her Mother went Christmas shopping in Easton. She knew the rules were to hold onto her mother's hand or her coat at all times. Having to blow her nose she briefly let go of her mother's coat. The next thing Lora knew, another lady was wearing her mother's coat, but where was her mother?
Living on a large farm in Durham, Pennsylvania, Lora's friends, besides her family, were the farm animals, especially Bessie her pet dog and Whitey a small goat. She received 13 peeps for a birthday present. One day an unwanted visitor came to the farm and shattered her dream. She learned to be responsible and was given a plot of ground to plant a garden of her own. She studied how to grow pumpkins and grew a humongous one. Did the pumpkin win an award at the Doylestown fair?
She made a new friend with a man named, "Shultzy." Her best friends were Mama and Papa Phillips. Visitors from Germany came to visit her classroom. They stayed for about 2 weeks and then all of a sudden they disappeared. Why? Lora enjoyed going to school until one day Pee Wee Poe made life unbearable for her and other students.
Lora, Lorretta Riegel, grew up in Durham, Pennsylvania. Her first book, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow," describes living and working with the old order Amish and Mennonites in the Alleghenyville and Ephrata, Pennsylvania area. "Lora's Adventures" is her second book recalling true experiences from her adolescent years. She is working on a third book, "Lora's Dream", describing the day she and her family visited the Philadelphia Zoo. She has had numerous articles published describing the historic Durham Plantation. The book is dedicated to parents who train their children to learn how to work, show respect to others, and enjoy their families.
