Author Loretta Smith Phillips leaves her legacy for her children, grandchildren and other readers with the publication of her new memoir "Memories" (published by AuthorHouse).

Born in 1939 just as the Great Depression was ending and World War II was beginning, Phillips learned the value of hard work from an early age. Without modern farming technology, she and her family worked tirelessly to raise crops and tend to their animals. Through it all, she embraced the challenges and thought of them as adventures.

In addition to Phillips' personal recollections, she also includes family histories and anecdotes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Her book captures the lives and experiences of several generations of her family.

Through her book, Phillips aims to illustrate what life was like without modern conveniences to further connect with younger readers. She also hopes readers with similar backgrounds will be able to identify with her writings.

"I want the readers to feel good," Phillips writes. "We need to take the good from the good things and learn from disappointments. Even though I did not have a lot of luxury as a child, Mom and Dad kept us safe and happy and we had each other and that was and is a great blessing."
