PALM SPRINGS, Calif.
Author Linsey Deverich tells the untold true story of her long-time relationship and engagement to Jack L. Warner in her new book, "Wandering Through La La Land with the Last Warner Brother" (published by AuthorHouse).
"This is a collection of memories that cover a major part of what started out as a very ordinary life," Deverich says. "But somehow, and certainly not by design, it became a life filled with extraordinary people and memorable experiences."
Deverich describes her first brush with Jack when she was 6 years old and he was a grown man and then meeting him again three decades later. "He became the most important person in my life," she writes. "Being a very private man, Jack Warner never sought publicity or recognition for his accomplishments. ... From the beginning, Jack's only interest was in making motion pictures. He was the creative talent of the Warner Brothers."
The book also highlights Deverich's friendships with such recognizable names as Fredrick Loewe, Fred Zinneman, Winthrop Rockefeller, Arthur Godfrey, Frank Sinatra and Dr. Jonas Salk.
"I have often wondered, why me?" the author reflects. "But then, why not me? It has been said that there are two situations that make interesting stories: when an exceptional person is thrown into the commonplace and when an ordinary person becomes involved in extraordinary events."
