While taking photographs of birds, author Linda Crow Caden began noticing their unique behaviors and personalities. She began thinking about how these birds could make great characters. Her new children's book, "Chicklet's Dream" (published by Archway Publishing), stars a unique little bird.

Chicklet is a little Royal Tern chick with a vivid imagination and a huge appetite. As he searches for something to eat, he encounters new places and animals along the way. It's a curious, exciting and sometimes scary trip, but Chicklet is up to the task. Along the way, Chicklet meets many other kinds of birds.

Caden hopes readers will learn about the various species of birds that populate the northeast coast of Florida. Rather than filled with illustrations like many children's books, the book is filled with many colored photographs of the birds described.

An excerpt from "Chicklet's Dream":

"Chicklet was a little shorebird called a tern.
A Royal Tern.
He lived in the tall grasses in the dunes on the beach. There were many other little Royal Tern chicks and their families too. It was safe. It was comfy. It was home."
