Legalize Perceived Age for Older Women

ESCONDIDO, Calif., March 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ Barbara Morris, editor and publisher of the Put Old on Hold Journal and author of the recently released book The New Put Old on Hold,is promoting a Trans-Age movement to help older women legally decide the age they want to be.

Ms. Morris explains some benefits of the movement:

• Legal perceived age would open up employment opportunities now out of the question for women of a "certain age."
• In a job search, a man at age 60 a man is considered "seasoned" while a same age woman is just "too old." According to a government statistic, between 2000-2014 the number of individuals 100 years of age or older and in good health increased by 43.6 percent, yet outdated thinking about the significance of chronological age persists.
• It would result in universal social, health, and economic benefits for goal oriented older women. Additional years of continued productivity would improve quality of life in the older years, helping eliminate a personal, financial and social burden often a result of premature mental and physical decline inherent with traditional retirement.
• Legal perceived age would make it possible for a single older woman whose fitness and appearance belie her chronological age to have more choices in finding a suitable partner whose age and vitality correspond to her perceived age.
• It would help obliterate the outdated cultural norm that in a relationship a woman should always be younger than a man.

Ms. Morris points out that government and corporate decision makers insist they respect and support the right of women to achieve their goals and aspirations regardless of age but Morris says, "In the real world, the old barriers are still there. Older women still face discrimination in the workplace. They suffer derision if they live their perceived age and are 'found out.' It's time for older women to empower themselves by declaring freedom from constraints of irrelevant chronological age and legally decide for themselves what that age they want to be. Since sexual identity is now a legal choice, fairness demands that legal perceived age should be a choice as well."
