Author LaVera Edick's book "Four Score and More: My Memoir, History and a Family Legacy" (published by Trafford Publishing), which will be showcased at the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair, is a memoir, history and a family legacy that reads like a novel. It is the record of Edick's life, her ancestors who paved the way for her journey through life and world events over the past century that shaped her into the woman she is today.
Edick is the main character in the book, with family and ancestors playing major roles. It is the true story of her growing up on a dry farmland in Nebraska during the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and World War II. Her father, who was raised as a Quaker, was taught that God has a plan for everyone and he helps those who help themselves. Edick learned to live by those words.
She tells heartwarming tales and tear-jerking stories of a time when money was scarce, but there was an abundance of love and family togetherness.
Edick, married at 17 during World War II, spent the next decade running a truck line and selling salt to ranchers in the Nebraska Sand Hills. Decades later, as a stay-at-home mom living in Bismarck, North Dakota., she was able to pursue her interests in art and genealogical research.
Many of Edick's paintings are found throughout the book, as well as photos taken nearly a century ago by her mother, using a Brownie Kodak camera.
The 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair attracts author, publishers and readers from around the world. The fair will be held in Frankfurt, Germany from Oct. 8 to Oct. 12.
