LIVY-JANE Picture Book is Released

Meet Livy-Jane in a new, eponymously titled picture book. Jane Hopper has fulfilled a lifetime ambition by publishing this entrancing work about an elder sister, the "tallest big girl in the house" who is beset with the troubles and concerns typical of her age and outlook; and filled with the dreams and doings of little women. Hopper's "Livy-Jane" encapsulates a world whose primary colour is pink, and whose icons are perfectly turned out and incredibly beautiful princesses like Barbie.

Livy-Jane has a talent for art. She is a fantastic ballet dancer. Dad and Mum love to watch her perform; Dad loves it so much that he doesn't mind getting "ants in his pants," as happened once in an outdoor dance recital. Livy-Jane does clever artwork, crafts-based beauties that her grandmother never tires of hanging from her walls and ceiling. To Livy's distress, the world is not as perfect as she would want it to be. It would have been perfect if not for a person Livy considers a usurper, a little person out to replace her in affection and esteem, if the way her parents dote on her little sister is to be believed:

"...her name is Claudia-Raine, she is one. My mum and dad call her Moochie Moochie and think she is really cute. I think she just cries a lot."

Five year old young women who know what they want would want to have this volume. They would know the very womanly desire to experiment painting their and other people's toenails; and sympathise with Livy when she is sometimes put to task for over-exuberance, as when she was chastised for "painting" the walls and door of her Mum's house with crayons. The outlook and understanding of a precocious five year old girl are all there for them to appreciate and learn from.
