WORTHING, England
Realizing that the process of writing an autobiography would help him learn more about himself, author Terence Chivers set about the task of literal self-discovery. Now, he shares the rewards of "Living for Learning" (published by Xlibris UK), baring his heart and soul for readers, letting them discover the story behind the man he is today.
Chivers has the willingness to assess his life dispassionately, neither condemning nor condoning activities and responses he made himself and those by others. Noting events, situations, attitudes and actions, he paints his life story - allowing him to revisit and re-evaluate his past experiences, understand his complexities and recognize careful and careless thought and decisions. He starts his personal account with his origins, sharing his family saga from his grandparents to his parents during their early life in the London East End. He also recounts his happy childhood in a home filled with warmth from a devoted mother and a loyal father. His journey to adulthood gives readers a glimpse into the ups and downs that shaped him into the man he is today.
An excerpt from the book:
"Time now to evaluate my life, while explaining why I take the views that I do. My position is that I believe that our assessments should be based on the greater good of humanity. I should therefore seek to help others where I can and seek generally to align my outlook and activities to the service of others."
A motivating and inspiring read, "Living for Learning" gives prominence to life as a means to self-understanding.

About the Author
Terence Chivers was a cook who became an evening student over many years to achieve four degrees with more letters after his name than in front. As a student of sociology, his focus became autobiographical writing on which he focused for one of his doctoral degrees. On retirement from university teaching, he applied himself to the University of the Third Age - or U3A as it is known, which is composed of persons in later life who choose studies from a range of subjects. Over 20 years, his life story writing groups helped many third- agers to put together their own life stories. No longer able to attend U3A groups, he offers help to would-be life story writers via the internet.
