PORTLAND, Ore., April 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ Liberstead Publishing has launched the Indie novel Liberty Awash by author JW Bruns. This near-future story takes place in the year 2025, in the floating city called Liberstead. Protagonist Rudi Wu, a recent college graduate with a degree in Analytics, lands in a libertarian utopia. She quickly encounters people who drink and drug daily, an extensive drug growing operation, and a vibrant 12-step recovery community. This coming-of-age story depicts characters both in and out of recovery with humor and respect.
"Young adults encounter legal drugs every day," says JW Bruns, author of the book. "With legalized marijuana, doctor prescribed opiates, and attention focus stimulants, today's young adults face a greater likelihood of becoming addicted early in life. As I created a fictional community of libertarians living at sea, it occurred to me that addiction and recovery are a human part of every future community."
In the book, Bruns points out that 12-step recovery groups; with millions of members, no identification cards or fees, no organizational structure, and the motto "Live and Let Live", may be a libertarian paradigm. Recovery themes with non-aggression and non-judgmental humility carry a profound message in a book that is a light satire of human foibles.
The Kindle version of Liberty Awash is available for $4.20 on Amazon. The Kindle version is available free on US Tax Day (April 15, 2015) and on International 420 Day (April 20, 2015). The paperback is 280 pages and costs $9.95. Liberty Awash features 40 chapter illustrations by the artist Ryan Incandenza.
