Having a sheltered childhood, there are many instances growing up where Jasmine Fleur wished she knew more about life. She believes that if she was more exposed to experiences, she would have made better choices. In her book titled "Knowing Me" (published by iUniverse in September of 2016), Fleur shares the touching tale of a girl's struggle as she grows up poor in a dysfunctional family and eventually sets out on a journey of self-discovery.

Amid a world bereft of luxuries and entitlements, a girl grows up with little hope of becoming anyone important. She is only able to escape her pain and dream of a better future through the pages of her beloved books. As she helplessly watches her parents rapidly descend into despair and failure, she learns to cope with reality, makes the best of what she has and plays within an imaginary world. When her coming-of-age journey leads her into young adulthood, she makes several life-changing mistakes that, at first, prompt self-pity but then eventually open her eyes to a new world where unlimited possibilities await. But will she be able to summon the inner strength to leave her past behind and embrace freedom and her true identity?

"I wanted to reach out to readers who may have had similar experiences growing up to let them know they were not alone and also to readers who have never been through such experiences to gain insight," Fleur says. "I think if this book reaches the teenager faced with difficult life choices, it may help them."

"Knowing Me" is a compelling novel that reflects the experiences and feelings of a young girl growing into a woman. It expresses the difficult choices and paths she has taken with life always throwing curve balls at her. It shows how anyone can make a life that is better even with bad things happening to them. Fleur hopes that after reading the book, readers will take a more insightful and thoughtful look at their own lives and others around them and to not become judgmental with those who grew up in dysfunctional homes.
