Ken Thompson Recalls a Life at War in New Memoir

In his 2011 book "Memoirs of a WWII Fighter Pilot and some modern political commentary" (published by Trafford Publishing) author and World War II veteran Ken Thompson assembles a collection of both wartime memories and observations about the state of modern American politics for readers' enjoyment.

An excerpt from "Memoirs of a WWII Fighter Pilot and some modern political commentary":

"Thirteen of us were assigned to the Eighty Fifth Fighter Squadron of the Seventy Ninth Fighter Group which had recently come up from Africa where they had served under Montgomery of the British Eighth Army. However they were now assigned to the American Third Army. We were the first replacements to go to the 79th and most of the pilots already had sixty-five to seventy-five missions under their belts."

Though Thompsons' wartime memoirs fill much of the book, he also takes aim with the advantage of hindsight and historical vision to discuss such issues as: the toleration of Islam in the United States, oil, money and banking, the United Nations, rising utility costs, unions, wages, taxes and the need for a balanced budget.

About the Author
Ken Thompson was born in 1922, left home at the age of 14, graduated from high school at the age of 16, entered college at the age of 18, and was called to service in the United States Armed Forces December 15, 1941. He served as a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945; he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters. After the service, he returned to college and earned a degree in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. His professional career as a civil engineer spanned over 40 years. He was named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities," 1948; "Who's Who in California," 1979; and named to Cambridge's Professional Achievement award, 2007.
