Kay Simone Helps Young Readers Understand their Growing Bodies in New Book

Using a boy's natural and profound curiosity about his growing teeth, author Kay Simone gives young readers some much needed support. Benny, Simone's lead character, is very anxious about changing his teeth. In fact, he can hardly wait for the new ones to grow. Without mentioning the Tooth Fairy, he has an intense need to have questions about his teeth answered immediately. His mother reassures him that it will happen before long. Benny carefully brushes his teeth, while noticing the slightest change. It is obvious that he is excited to become gap toothed, like many other kids he knows.

One day, Benny sees that his old teeth have not fallen out and are now in front of the ones that are growing. Benny's mother comforts him, but his friend Jayden helps him realize that he is special. In the playground, Benny compares Jayden's teeth to a Jack-o'-lantern's teeth. Jayden then compares Benny's teeth to shark's teeth and explains why they are great.
